CLEVELAND, TN. The Museum Center at 5ive Points will host a Children's Summer History Camp from July 21-25 for children ages 7 - 12 who are entering 2nd - 5th grades. The theme of the week-long camp is the Cherokee then and now. During the week children will be immersed in Cherokee culture of the past and present with a variety of activities and field trips that will help them explore the many facets of Cherokee culture and history. The camp meets from 9:00 - noon each day, except for one longer field trip day. Each day will bring a new adventure. Sherry and Mark Finchum of Indian Creek Productions will be coming to present their program on Cherokee traditions of the past and present. They will bring many hands-on activities for the children, authentic Cherokee items and will share their vast knowledge of the Cherokee people. There will be a visit to Red Clay State Historic Site for a special tour of their new Three Sisters' Garden and a hands-on project with the Site's interpretive staff and a picnic lunch on the grounds. Another day will be a visit to Hair Conrad's Cabin, which is on private property. Children will see the home of a Cherokee who not only was influential in Cleveland's history, but who also led a contingent on the Trail of Tears. Other days will be filled with Cherokee storytelling and crafts. Reservations and pre-payment for this fun-filled week are required by July 18th.
